Temple architecture in Kerala is different from that of other regions in India. Largely dictated by the geography of the region that abounds in forests blessed with the bounties of the monsoons, the structure of the temples in Kerala is distinctive. The roofs are steep and pointed, and covered with copper sheets. The Kerala roof resembles those found in the Himalayan regions and those in East Asia. Most of kerala temples having a well called manikinar inside the temple and a pond near by.
1. KARAGRE VASATHE (BEFORE OPEN YOUR EYES IN THE MORNING) Karaagre Vasathe Lakshmi Kara Madhye Saraswathi Kara Moolethu Govinda Prabhathe Karadarsanam. In the morning pray this prayer and you should have a respectful look at hands. The front part of the hand(ie. finger tip) are ascribed to goddess Lakshmi(the goddess of wealth).The middle part of hand(palm proper) ascribed to the Goddess Saraswathi( the goddess of learing/vidhya).And the root part(near the wrist) ascribed to God Govinda. We pray the god that we would do good things by our hands. 2. SAMUDRA VASANE (BEFORE TOUCHING YOUR FEET ON THE FLOOR) Samudra Vasane Devi, Parvata Stana Mandale, Vishnupathni Namasthubhyam, Paada Sparsam Kshemaswa me . Meaning : O!
